News & Runway

Before the Fall Winter 2010 Emanuel Ungaro runway show even took place the buzz was that Lindsay Lohan had no hand in the latest Estrella Archs designed Ungaro collection, a theory that proved to be accurate. Sans La Lohan, Archs was able to turn out a slight improvement over the Spring/Summer 2010 collection (though, as we all know by now, that isn’t saying very much).

While the looks were wearable, flirty and feminine, they seemed more appropriate for a contemporary (think Alice + Olivia) type brand than a luxury house with the rich heritage as Emanuel Ungaro. In fact, were I to block out all of the work that Ungaro and even Esteban Cortazar put into the brand, I would say this collection is just fine. Unfortunately, it’s hard to overlook the cheap-looking prints and horrible styling that combined painfully bright colors that should never be in arms length of one another.

A number of looks were finished with obi-style ruched belts/sashes fashioned in bold colors, which lent a thrown-together, casual vibe to the collection. Regrettably, that thrown together vibe was more 80’s prom dress than casual chic.

Archs still has a ways to go, and I have to say I am somewhat surprised at the collection. Archs’ namesake line showed significantly more promise than her work at Ungaro (even though it also veered towards the overly bright).
