Tony Cohen Fall 2011 Runway Review

Tony Cohen, an Amsterdam-based designer who has previously shown his collection in New York during Fashion Week, showed a dark lineup of eveningwear accented with fur and beading.

Several principle inspirations are carried throughout the Dutch designer’s collection from season to season. His color palettes mimic the changing color of fading flowers as they begin to dry, something that was on clear display in both the colors as well as the patters the designer opted to use in his Fall 2011 collection. Further, Cohen’s fabrics are meant to look and feel lived in and personal, not new and stiff, which was most evident in the soft drape of his chiffon looks and the heirloom-like feel of his finale dress.

Speaking of the finale look, Cohen has often turned to curtain draping, in particular drapes found in classic 17th Century homes in Amsterdam that have elaborate detail in their construction and hanging, and this season this affinity made for some particularly regal looks.
