Glastonbury 2011 Festival Style

The epic Glastonbury Festival is known for drawing big-name musical acts and this year was no exception with performers including U2, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Wu-Tang Clan and Paul Simon. Since it is held on the often-soggy fields of Worthy Farm in the UK, the festivities also usually serve as a lesson on how to successfully integrate wellies into festival gear. From celebs to the festival faithful, attendees braved the muddy conditions in a barrage of eclectic ensembles featuring hippie and rock influences blended with designer as well as vintage pieces. Here’s a rundown of some of Glastonbury’s best styles from over the weekend.

Alexa Chung is no stranger to the festival scene and certainly deserves the title of Glastonbury Queen thanks to her stellar lineup of ensembles. The first day saw the fashionable star decked out in a string of pearls, ivory blouse, shorts, and a studded mini cross-body bag. Somehow it all worked even paired with an army green coat and mud-soaked wellies. Alexa followed up this creative effort by sporting a leopard-print coat over a graphic tee and denim shorts with exposed pockets. We love that she included her classic black quilted Chanel bag, too.

Repeat festival-goer, Pixie Geldof came prepared for the sloppy conditions in a red hooded raincoat, while Kate Moss went biker chic in a slim leather jacket, faded green top and patterned pants. Even her wellies managed to tie in well with the tough look, although it’s amazing how relatively clean she managed to keep her footwear given the circumstances.

Perennial rock star Bono hit the scene with his wife, Ali Hewson. Since mismatching is a staple at Glastonbury, Ali’s combination of a striped top with lace sleeves, silver floral skirt, and red wellies fit right in. It wasn’t just celebs relying on vivid hues to make a statement at the annual event. Skinny red jeans are sure to brighten up any look, especially when combined with metallic boots and a printed white crew tank as displayed by this fan.

This prim white tie-collar sleeveless blouse allowed the rust-colored pleated skirt featuring sheer black trim to speak volumes. The slightly conflicting blue knee socks and colorful headband make the whole vibe more festive than corporate. A full-on floral headpiece was just one accent that made this attendee stand out from the crowd. Throw in that heavy shearling vest, colorful printed skirt and cowboy boots for a completely original outfit.

Festival dressing goes to the dogs courtesy of a canine sweater combined with a striped cardigan and khaki shorts. This relaxed look is a study in how to practically layer for the ever-changing conditions on the farm. The asymmetrical hem on this semi-transparent pale pink dress provided an interesting note of drama even after hitting the mud. Securing a brown belt amidst slightly exposed black layers was another stroke of genius.
