Our Men in Afghanistan Take Very Good Care of Their Eyebrows

Soldier in AfghanistanWell, here's something I bet you never thought you'd have to think about: the state of our military's eyebrows. Um, so apparently American soldiers in Afghanistan have gotten really into eyebrow plucking and threading. So much so, that the Marine Corps had to create eyebrow grooming regulations in 2007: "excessive plucking or removal of eyebrows is not authorized, except for medical reasons."

I don't really know where to go with this. What can you say about this story? A sizeable minority of soldiers on US bases in Afghanistan don't just take their service seriously, they take their eyebrows seriously, too. I don't mean to be flip or disrespectful, I just can't comprehend. How did this trend emerge? Did American men really become so image conscious without me noticing? This isn't just a case of someone ironing a button-down and slapping on some after-shave before a date, this eyebrow thing is serious. These men are engaged in combat, in the Middle East, isolated from women, and they're taking threading lessons so that they can stay on top of their stray brow hairs.

On the plus side, it's obviously working for them. The soldier pictured here is beyond gorgeous. Is he wearing lip gloss? Whatever. Come home soon, boys!
