19 Slinky Slip Dresses for One-and-Done Summer Dressing

Wearing your PJs beyond the bedroom has gone from faux pas to très chic. And mega mogul Rihanna advocates styling her new Savage x Fenty lingerie line out and about with jeans. The latest boudoir style to hit the streets? The slip dress.

For Spring 2018, designers gave us the slip.

They were all over the Spring 2018 runways with designers preferring the more intimate variety boasting lace accents and peekaboo paneling. Preen revamped the traditional slip dress by tucking draped fabric into the neckline. Salvatore Ferragamo was more of a straight shooter by letting this red hot number stand on its own. But Coach 1941 took things to another level by featuring numerous incarnations layered over sheer T-shirts.

Even more slip dresses.

Turning the sexy quotient up to 11, Christopher Kane’s versions looked like they came straight from Victoria’s Secret. Tory Burch was all about that lace showing a pair not only boasting colorful trim along the neckline and in between pleats, but around the pockets. While Maria Grazia Chiuri’s black pleated slip dress came the closest to looking like an actual gown.

Rocking a sexy slip dress on the runway is one thing, but sporting one IRL takes some finesse. Don’t go too clingy (size up if you have to) because you don’t want to reveal too much. The key over the summer is to not over style the look. Try working in a set of neutral sandals or basic black combat boots — just go easy on the jewelry. Once fall rolls around, you can layer a fine-knit turtleneck or long-sleeve crew neck underneath for extra insulation making them more than one-season wonders. Warning: These are not the kind of slips you position under sheer dresses to retain some level of modesty. They’re much too fancy.
