I went to a VIP press preview for the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection on Friday the 13th, the day before the line’s launch. I’ve been excited about the collection ever since photos began trickling in, so I was happy to attend the special shopping preview. I ended up walking away with a crystal-embellished long-sleeved black back cut-out dress ($129) and a plastic pink clutch ($59.95) – both of which I had hoped would be as covetable in person as in the advertisements. I’m very happy with my purchases, and although the quality might not be the best, the prices are pretty hard to beat, and they still look like they cost more than what I paid.
I had my eye on the blue metallic shoes as well, but those didn’t look right when I tried them on. Similarly, the studded belt was way to big for my frame. I was surprised that the pieces seemed to be sized bigger than what I usually find at H&M – not that this stopped the chic crowd from snatching up pretty much everything in sight. The woman in front of me at check-out literally spend four figures on the collection!
While I didn’t pass any H&M stores on Saturday when the collection went public, from what I hear people began lining up at 3 am. A friend of mine who lives in Paris went to a store in her area and said that by mid-afternoon the whole collection, with the exception of a few size 12 pieces, was sold out. I guess there’s no arguing the success of the collection and now, on to the next with Sonia Rykiel. The chic Parisian label will be next up for a special limited edition collection for Winter 2009 and Spring 2010.
On December 5th, H&M will be launching Sonia Rykiel for H&M lingerie, marking the first time that H&M has extended its designer collaboration to the world of undergarments. Sonia Rykiel will make this lingerie collection available in her major boutiques around the world – another first for H&M. Then, on February 20th, a knitwear collection for women and girls and accessories will hit.
If I can make a suggestion, go make friends with your local Sonia Rykiel salesperson now, because this is sure to be one of H&M’s best collaborations to date.
