On Thursday, July 16th, i-D Magazine and Gucci hosted an exhibition at Christie’s Auction House to fete the recent publication of i-D’s 600 page book, Soul i-D. The book groups together a selection of work collected over the past ten years from separate projects originally published independently by i-D, and features contributions from some of the biggest names in the fashion, music, art, and design worlds. Among those featured are Bono, Terry Richardson, Tracey Emin, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, Raf Simmons, Julien Macdonald, Hussein Chalayan, Ron Arad, Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake, Veronique Branquino, David LaChapelle, Chris Martin, Yoko Ono, and many more. The moving exhibit kicked off in Paris at Azzedine Alaïa’s eponymous gallery space last November, then made its way to London at Christie’s South Kensington in March 2008 before heading to Milan during Salone Internazionale del Mobile. Finally, for its last stop, it came to New York City to cap off the exhibit’s three year international exhibition tour. For two weeks, until July 30th, the exhibition will be displayed at Christie’s Gallery 6 at 20 Rockefeller Plaza.
The exhibition and the book were made possible by the magazine’s founders, Terry and Tricia Jones (Terry Jones serves as i-D’s founding creative director and editor in chief), and the thought-provoking, insightful exhibition includes photography, anecdotes, personal experiences, advice and wisdom as featured in SOUL i-D.
The exhibition was, in Christie’s words, “assembled in the form of a suspended eye at the center of the gallery, proffering a window into the heart and soul of modern society.”
