I always feel like a giraffe trying to extend its neck as high up as possible at BCBG Max Azria shows because I’m head over heels about their shoes.
This season, the show – complete with Coco Rocha, Ashley Simpson, Joe Zee, Anna Wintour, and Poppy Delevigne in the front row – did not disappoint.
The show started with a near dozen fluid, fluttering white or ash gray dresses paired with cutout white shoes that fashioned slender straps around the ankle. The shoe style was reintroduced in coordinating colors throughout the collection.
Pockets, a touch I always appreciate, were incorporated into a few of the mini dresses. Watching the models walk in these monochromatic looks, you can’t help but wish you were sunning in the Hamptons.
Embellishments were kept to a light minimum on both the clothes and with the accessory-less styling.
With slicked-back hair, natural-looking make-up, and no jewelry or handbags in sight, the focus in this collection was on the fabrics, cuts, and tailoring – all of which underscored how easily a city girl could slink into one of these dresses for a day or night look. There was a minimal, youthful sophistication to the collection, which was all the more impressive given the lack of frill.
After the light gray and white parade, the show progressed into darker neutrals, prints, and dashes of color, before finishing off with black pieces. The standout looks, all lightly draped down a model’s back or across a chest, incorporated small pops of color such as pink, rusty yellow, and peach.
While the show felt a bit repetitive at times, it seemed like a big step forward for the brand. The minimalist styling indicated how easily a woman could make these pieces her own with the addition of a favorite pendant or cuff.
The collection features so many silhouettes to choose from when it comes to summer staples. BCBG will certainly be a major go-to when these looks hit boutiques.
