Manuel’s creative director Wilfredo Rosado presented his Spring/Summer 2009 collection for Manuel at the Loft in the Bryant Park Hotel on September 5th. The presentation was beautifully executed and had the models standing like delicate mannequins against a black backdrop.
Rosado said that his menswear was a tribute to Diego Rivera – “These clothes are a tribute to the sensibility of Rivera. I wasn’t interested in doing a straight-up homage, but rather, a celebration of the artist’s way of being masculine. That feels very fresh to me – a man who’s forceful in his life and easy with his luxuries.”
The men’s collection had some beautifully tailored pants and wonderful hats, but it was a pair of Swarovski knickers worn underneath a sheer white gown in the Manuel womenswear collection that caught my attention – very 20’s flapper meets modern-day fashionista, which I love.
The show was very well styled and everything from the pearl necklaces to the crimped hair complemented the womenswear collection.
