In honor of their new capacity to grant degrees, King’s College London has recruited Dame Vivienne Westwood to design their graduation dress.
A student-walked runway show on July 3 debuted the British designer’s 20 gowns paired with hoods instead of traditional caps.
Graduates will wear colors representing their colleges and their degree levels (fuchsia for the dental school, silver for the law school, etc.). All gowns will feature a button with a lion, the school’s mascot.
In 2007, King’s College invited the innovative Westwood to design the collection, which the class of 2008 will wear later in July. Ede & Ravenscroft will produce the gowns.
