Jason Polan x Soludos Brings Summer to Resort Season

Resort season is fast approaching and the pressure is on retailers to outfit the masses accordingly. The good people at Soludos are on it with the release of a new capsule collection in collaboration with illustrator Jason Polan. Polan spends his days on the New York City streets scribbling sketches of the people he sees milling around the city. Now he’s lending his talents to Soludos, which is putting his drawings on its famous espadrilles.

Jason Polan x Soludos is a nine-piece range of shoes for women, men and children, all featuring embroidered renderings of Polan’s drawings. The espadrilles are emblazoned with cute images of ice cream, a hamburger and fries, friendly toucans and a cheeky winking eye. The range sounds quite summery, but considering resort season is an opportunity to get away from the frigid temps of winter, this collection is right on with its aesthetic.

The collection has already hit the Soludos website. Women’s shoes are priced at $65, while you can expect to shill out $45 for kids’ shoes and $75 for men’s pairs.

Check out the full collection below. (more…)

Glenn Cocco Is a Real Person and 4 Other Things We Didn’t Know About ‘Mean Girls’

It’s been 10 years since Mean Girls hit theaters, which means for the past decade, we’ve been quoting the Tina Fey-written comedy to no end. And really, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Of course there is a great sense of nostalgia for the film, understandable with it being “so fetch” and all.

Entertainment Weekly got the film’s original cast together for a reunion to talk all the behind-the-scenes action that took place while making the movie. The blossoming friendships, the inside jokes, the casting changes and more. In the lengthy interview, we learned a whole lot about Mean Girls that we didn’t know. And that’s impressive because we’ve memorized like, every line in the movie already.

Below, five new things we learned about the film.

1. Glenn Cocco Is a REAL PERSON

“I tried to use real names in writing because it’s just easier,” Tina said. “My older brother’s good friend is Glenn Cocco. He’s a film editor in Los Angeles, and I imagine it’s a pain in the butt for him.”

2. There Is Such a Thing as Mean Girls Day, Which Is Very Confusing to the Cast

Thanks to a line in the film where Cady Heron tells Aaron Samuels the date, October 3rd has become “Mean Girls Day” for fans all over. “I was leaving the playhouse the other day. [Lohan is starring in a revival of Speed-the-Plow in London’s West End],” Lindsay told EW. “These kids were outside, and someone said, ‘Do you know what day it is?’ and someone said, ‘It’s October 3rd!’ I was like, ‘What? I don’t understand!’ I didn’t know what they meant. Then I realized it!”

Cara Delevingne Appears in Die Antwoord’s Blackface-Riddled Music Video

We adore hot guys, but ugly boys need love, too. Fortunately for South African rappers Die Antwoord, Cara Delevingne is willing to give them the TLC they so crave. The model appears in a music video for the rap-rave group’s “Ugly Boy,” which indeed lives up to its title.

With the help of Dita Von Teese, Jack Black, Marilyn Manson and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, the group puts together quite a creepy, bloody, gothic video. While we’d like to forget the footage of rapper Ninja getting punched in the face, his mouth spewing blood, we get a break from the violence courtesy of Cara, who pantomimes, poses with a toy gun, smooches and jumps on the rapper’s back during her cameo.

Despite all the blood, the video is all well and good until we see an image of a white man in (very bad) blackface and an afro wig. Of course, this video wouldn’t be complete without a little dose of good, old-fashioned minstrelsy! Die Antwoord is known for their provocative “shock” brand of “rap” music, so we think they added this unnecessary bit of casual racism because, why not? After all, blackface is an American thing, so it’s totally OK to do it if your music video is being released in the U.K.

Seems to fit with the theme at any rate because nothing is uglier than a white man in blackface.

Do We Approve of Alessandra Ambrosio’s Provocative Cover for Lui? (Forum Buzz)

Lui is racking up quite the list of cover subjects, tapping the likes of Rihanna, Kate Moss and Gisele Bündchen to front its provocative covers. Alessandra Ambrosio is the magazine’s latest conquest and we see the Brazilian bombshell pose with nothing but a tie wrapped strategically around her neck.

Lui Magazine November 2014 Alessandra Ambrosio

Our forum members are left with mixed feelings toward the cover. “Don’t like it, too much post-production going on here. Her head looks pasted onto someone else’s body. It’s unfortunate because Alessandra is the perfect choice for shoots like these. The pose reminds me of Mena Suvari in American Beauty, or is it Jennifer Aniston for US GQ?” shared Benn98.

“Ouch! This is one of the worst covers of Ale that I [have] ever seen. So cheap. So vulgar. And her face and body are different. She looks better on paparazzi shots. This awful blue background doesn’t help, too,” wrote narcyza.

But not everyone felt the same way. “Nice! I would have preferred a bit stronger makeup and a shot with her lips closed for the cover but she looks great. Nice posing that shows off her body and no crazy, vulgar nudity. I’m sure it helps that it was shot by a woman,” complimented CommanderTMugler.

“I was waiting for this moment for so long without thinking it would [be] possible tbh. The cover is great. I love the blue background, love the tie, too (Hi Mr. Grey),” Oxymore approved inside the thread.

*Alejandra* shared the same sentiments and enthused, “I think she looks PERFECT! Her body has changed so much after giving birth to 2 kids, Pilates has done a fabulous job on her. She doesn’t look muscular like Izabel Goulart & everything is toned perfectly in my opinion.”
